It's olive season.
Niks family have enough trees for self sufficiency of oil for two years. For two days Niks father and three workers have been cutting the branches and beating the crap out of them to shake those green and black pearls off. So today we started burning the remains of the empty branches.. After one days dragging and burning olive branches my lower arms look like a teenagers' suffering from self mutilation syndrome...
Since the season started I have taken a deep dive into the corrupt greek beurocracy. Been sent to different institutions and offices and floors, in order to get the papers I needed for my IKA stamps, my workers insurance. Finally have that over with.
Thankfully my dutch friend Emmie lend me some of her english novels and the same did a female college of Nik's. I have reading for the whole winter. Too bad I have an exam in INternational marketing to study for..the novels are so much more tempting right now.
I have begun an internet based greek course for beginners. Its a peice of cake for me tho. So i'm doing it for the credits and the Extra income the swedish states provides for me as a student..If they ever find a teacher, I will soon begin the greek courses offered by the european union to foreigners. Looking forward to it more due to the chance of meeting some new people. I know for a fact that there are many foreigners living on this island, but I have only met a handful of them. I desperatly need to enlarge my social network here. I definatley could use some more coffe drinking buddies.
I realize, however, that time flies, and theres always something to do around the house, or always some small errend to run in town. Aris,The dog is always happy to go for a walk and the cat Rory is always willing to play. And with the beach 5 minutes walking distance away.I have spend just as much time there as in the house. Braking the laws of the National Park by collecting white seashells for some nerdy creative activity I will undertake in the winter, or for my excersise or afternoon walks with Eli. Slowly I'm getting used to that having nothing to do can turn into doing loads.
As nerdy as it may sound, I always loved going grocery shopping. And since we do that about every ten days, there are lists to be made.
